Meet Our Founder - Jess Poulin

A Vermont-native who spent the past 15-years living and working in New York City — where she established roots and relationships with brands like Facebook, Google, YSL Beauty, and HBOMax — Poulin received her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Manhattan College (now University), where her love for PR originally took shape. With a double major in Spanish and a minor in Music, it was MU that nourished Jess’ early interests in culture, language, and identity, and began to shape her career lens. Originally starting out in the Music & Entertainment industry, Jess worked across major and independent record labels from 2012 to 2017, representing international superstars like Keith Urban, Sara Evans, Alter Bridge, Waka Flocka, Silento, Michael Franti & Spearhead, and For King & Country (among others). Managing national tour press and Grammy-award winning album releases, Poulin quickly established herself as a top music PR Executive within the industry. But as the music industry evolved, so did her purpose.

As Poulin learned to shift with the times, she quickly proved she could move culture across genres, industries, and audiences, and soon found herself on the branding side of PR, moving from pre-established brands and people, to helping emerging talent break through the noise. The shift proved useful when in 2018 she officially left her corporate job to launch her own PR & Branding agency. Since its inception, Woke Media has focused on reshaping the systems we move through and serving the communities that need it most. Specializing in building visibility for mission-driven businesses and carving out space in oversaturated markets for brands led by BIPOC, LGBTQ+, womxn and other minority groups, Poulin’s work has been featured in everything from Forbes, NY Times, TIME, Inc. Magazine, Essence, Refinery29, Glamour, and more.

With a longstanding presence in the European market, and a love for Spanish culture that was cultivated from her early days visiting in 2008, Jess officially swapped New York’s concrete jungle for Barcelona’s terracotta streets in February 2025. Seeing untapped opportunity to expand WM’s services to meet the growing wave of womxn entrepreneurs and new businesses across Spain and the EU, Poulin now operates Woke Media from Barcelona’s only women's membership club, Juno House.

When she’s not behind-the-scenes launching someone else’s big moment, Jess also serves as the founder and host of Webby-nominated podcast High On Feminism — a femme-forward, cannabis-positive empowerment platform.
